The mission of Ambassadors of the Word (AOW) is to provide African American youth with * Positive self-images and skills aimed at producing effective citizens for the community; * Revitalize the African American youth spirit by applying African American precepts; * Prepare at-risk youth for leadership roles within a multi-cultural society; * Gain a keen awareness of international economic systems; * Improve health and academic performance; and * Increase knowledge of self through ethics and spiritual values.
Ambassadors of the Word is also a youth pilgrimage organization that liberates and enriches the youth by leading them out of the physical and mental ghettos that inhabit them into the African diaspora. (The team serves as spiritual advisors to this group. AOW celebrated its fifteenth anniversary in April, 2004. There are seven AOW chapters. They are located in Indianapolis, IN; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Ralieigh, NC; Birmingham, AL; Houston, TX; and Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
