He’s Blessing Me!

By Denise Morrow

Greetings and Happy New Year!

Well, I constantly find myself remembering the good times we had on the cruise.  It was a time of being relaxed and free from all worries.  I returned to my job and parish with a renewed spirit.  I just have to remember to keep the spirit and have faith because the Lord answers prayers.  As I grow older I am beginning to reflect on all the blessings I have received and didn’t realize it.  It’s amazing how people don’t recognize their blessings when they are performed.  That’s because our blessings don’t come in the form or manner in which we expect them to come.

During this black history month and throughout the year, it’s a time for honoring the struggles of our ancestors.  They endured a lot so that we may not suffer.  We, as young adults, need to be clear about our roots and history.  It’s the strong motivator for us to strive to be the best we can be.  We need to remember with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

According to Iyanla Vanzant, in her book One Day My Soul Just Opened UP, we need to remember God is in control.  I cannot make anything happen.  Thy will, not my will, is done in the perfect way at all times.  Surrender will eliminate fear. Surrender will eliminate anger.  I must be willing to do the work to overcome fear.

We, as young adults, need to remember to share our time and talents with others.  Always remember God made you a unique individual and you are blessed with special talents.  If you don’t know what they are yet, take the time to discover them.  According to Erica Jong,  "Everyone has a talent.  What is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads."  Get involved in church, and your community and try to make a difference in the life of others.  As we get involved in various adventures in life some are good and some are bad.  According to Iyanla, you are entitled to honor what you feel.  When one door closes, another door opens.   Whatever you repress will become stress.  So, basically we need to always remain positive in our struggles because that’s what makes us better people.  Perhaps one day the future generations will look back and reflect on our actions and how we made a difference in their lives.
